Cultivating Resilience:

Strength, Stability, and Compassion in These Challenging Times

with Pir Shabda Kahn

A Note from Pir Shabda:

We will reach into the profound perennial wisdom of our lineage practice, including wazifas, zikr, breath, and attitude, searching to illuminate how our practice serves as medicine for the suffering of the day and the world.

About Pir Shabda:

Shabda Kahn has been a disciple of Sufism since 1969. He is a direct disciple of Murshid Samuel L. Lewis (Sufi Ahmed Murad Chisti), and he worked closely with the great American mystic Joe Miller. Shabda is currently the Pir (spiritual director) of the Sufi Ruhaniat International and the director of the Chisti Sabri School of Music... continue reading

April 21 Bowl of Saki Commentary

The soul is first born into the false self, it is blind; in the true self the soul

opens its eyes . -- Hazrat Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan

Commentary from Hazrat Murshid Samuel L. Lewis (Sufi Ahmed Murad Chisti):

This is because in going toward incarnation, the soul was made drunk and becomes

enticed by the wonders of the worlds of limitations. Then it becomes identified in its

dream with that which it is dreaming and does not know it is false until it has

awakened. Every spiritual practice enhances this awakening, which becomes fact

when it sees that the false ego is the product of thought and not the originator.

HAZRAT INAYAT KHAN: I ASKED GOD

I asked for strength and God gave me difficulties to make me strong.

I asked for wisdom and God gave me problems to learn to solve.

I asked for prosperity and God gave me a brain and brawn to work.

I asked for courage and God gave me dangers to overcome.

I asked for love and God gave me people to help.

I asked for favors and God gave me opportunities.

    I received nothing I wanted.

    I received everything I needed.

Quote from an interview with Pir o Murshid Hazrat Inayat Khan after a lecture in Edinburgh in 1919.

  • Pir Shabda writes, My dear River of Guidance Family,

It was a deep joy to share these teachings, transmissions and feelings with you all.

Murshid Sam did give us the Prajna Paramita to recite everyday for a time. If you want to study it further Thich Nhat Hanh has written an excellent short book and HH Dalai Lama has written a wonderful book on the Heart Sutra.

The Bardo Thodol - the Tibetan Book of the Dead, which has its source in the 8th century Master

Padmasambhava has been translated many times and is a little more difficult to approach. Probably the easiest approach is a book by Sogyal Rinpoche called The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying.

The teachings on Life after Death are in the Volume 5 of the Sufi Message called Aqibat and there is a

Commentary by Murshid Sam which I also include here called Aqibayyat, which was the last text he

was teaching from before his passing. What I failed to say today, was what Murshid Sam taught in the

last lesson I received from him. He said: “The connection between the Murshid and mureed is in no

way dependent on one or the other being in the body”

I loved sharing the video where Murshid Sam is asked, “What do you want to do before you

die?” and he responded “Before I die …(laughs) … as I have consciousness of Immortality direct, this

    is a difficult question….!"

Blessings on your journey and may all your activities be of benefit,

    Shabda
