The Joy of Singing

with Aliela Gorzaltchik

A note from Aliela: Joy of Singing is the path of harmonic singing in the state of attunement to each other and to the 'Heart of Silence' behind the music. We will discover beautiful chants from different parts of the world, in different languages, enriched with practices that develop our capacity for listening.

No musical skills or singing experience of any kind are required. Our intention is to reveal the Beauty and Joy hidden in our hearts, through sounds and harmonies to bring more Love, Harmony and Beauty into the world. Singing is a beautiful way to inner freedom and happiness, a way to deepen the knowledge of our true self, an organic spiritual practice available to everyone.

Music can guide us to the experience of sacred Unity. Singing together with an open heart and willingness for deeper listening, both inwardly and outwardly, also unfolds our ability to create harmony of voices and hearts. When learning to do this, we cultivate a better response to the Music of Life. As Hazrat Inayat Khan beautifully says, "The harmony of life can be learned in the same way as the harmony of music”.

  • Take a few moments every morning to breathe in and out Joy; at some point let your breath in exhalation become sound.

Listen carefully: what do I sound like today? What does my voice, body, heart and soul sound like? Take a moment of silence after your sung note. Listen to your silence: how does it sound? What kind of music fills your silence?

Sing your own Hallelujah - song of gratitude - in whatever melody your soul wants to sing it ! Don't try to compose it intentionally or to make it "perfect " (or even better than it is already is) - just let your soul sing through your voice and body... with all sincerity! Try to remember how you sang when you were a child - with all your heart... Do it again!

Listen... listen...listen...to the Music of Life within and around you. Audible and inaudible Music. What kind of message does it bring to you ? Will you try to respond in harmony ? Listening to all of it and yet representing your own note/melody/tune with clarity and confidence..

with appreciation for all the beauty of diversity in our world...this is how Harmony exists - whenever we tune in to Creation, even if some sounds seem dissonant to us.

And, a beautiful quote from Hazrat Inayat Khan:

"Harmony is brought about by attuning oneself to all beings, all

things, all situations. We can experience this through music too."

"THE HARMONY OF LIFE CAN BE LEARNED IN THE SAME WAY AS THE HARMONY OF MUSIC."

  • A closing note from Aliela:

"Once upon a time there was a simple understanding that to sing at dawn and to sing at dusk was to heal the world through joy. The birds still remember

what we have forgotten, that theworld is meant to be celebrated." -Terry Tempest William

"When a person learns music, they need not necessarily learn to be a musician or  become a source of pleasure and joy to their fellow people;  but by playing,

loving, and hearing music, they must develop music in their personality. The true use of music is to become musical in one's thoughts, words and actions." -Hazrat Inayat Khan

I hope in our experience of singing together, creating harmony of voices and hearts , we are taking at least small steps towards achieving this goal.
Keep singing, keep shining your light, keep generating harmony. Be the joyful melody woven into the Symphony of Life!
    With love and gratitude,
    Aliela
